One of the most difficult things to do when transitioning towards a more zero waste lifestyle is figuring out exactly how to replace disposable items with reusable versions. Most of the time, people do not have time to do research and find the best possible alternative, so here are some tips for replacements you can use instead of items you throw away.
Some of these items are relatively difficult to find, so here are some places to look:
· Etsy usually has some reusable version of any disposable item (sellers can usually accommodate your zero waste lifestyle by using all reusable/compostable/recyclable packaging if you request it)
· Package Free is a great website full of all zero waste items, packaged with either all compostable or recyclable packaging or no packaging (some of these items tend to be sold out, but you can request to be notified when items come back in stock)
· The Co-Op in Moscow, ID has a ton of bulk and environmentally friendly items, including cleaners and cleaning materials; they also have a good variety of small reusable containers for packing lunch to-go or food in small packages
This is definitely not a comprehensive list of items or possible shopping locations, so feel free to ask us about a disposable item not listed here that you would like to replace. We would love to help find a reusable version.
