The "Re-" Motto
All organisms create waste. This is a fact of life.
Humans are uniquely different from other species. Our waste is comprised of a wide range of diverse materials that are not necessities for humans to survive. Landfills and other waste disposal systems are limited in space and the combination of various substances mixed together produces toxic chemicals that can runoff and contaminate water sources.
We have the capacity to reduce the amount of waste created by making simple changes in our daily lifestyles. These changes include adopting the “Re-“ Motto: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot.
Living zero waste is living by the “Re-” Motto. To refuse items you do not need, reduce amounts thrown away, reuse items, recycle objects into new purposes, and rot the rest.
What living with the “Re-“ Motto could look like for you:
Refusing the plastic packaged foods.
Reducing your wardrobe, decluttering, and donating.
Reusing glass jars for storage.
Recycling paper, plastic bottles, and paper. And Recycling old T-shirts into wash rags.
Rotting uneaten fruits, veggies, and compostable materials.
Humans, plants, and animals all share one thing in common, the Earth. Minimizing the output that is created will not only benefit ourselves as individuals but also the loved ones and environments that we choose to surround ourselves with.
